The Interior Ministry said on 27 March 2026 that France Identité reached 4 million users two years after launch. It stores the ID card, driving licence and vehicle registration, and lets users sign in to public services through FranceConnect; about 79,500 proxy votes were made fully online. A secondary report says it will serve as France's EU wallet; I could not confirm that from an official source.

Euro-area member. The ECB says it is preparing a possible first issuance during 2029, with a pilot planned for 2027, and assumes EU law is adopted in 2026. The European Parliament voted on 9 July 2026 to open talks with the Council; no final law is confirmed.
